About Bennelong Toastmasters

Established in November 1980, Bennelong Toastmasters is a small and friendly club situated approximately 2 minutes walk from the Powerhouse Museum. We are focused on developing public speaking, communication and leadership skills in a friendly and safe environment that is supportive of all its members.

For people joining Toastmasters for the first time, membership provides you with a 10 project speech manual which is designed to help you develop presentation skills incrementally. After completion of this manual you can choose from the many advanced manuals and continue working on specific skills.

For those who have a competitive edge, we hold four competitions during the year. They are the Humorous Speech, Table Topics (an Impromptu Speaking Competition), Evaluation, and International Speech Competition. Participants in the International Speech Competition have the opportunity to compete in America and become the "World Champion of Public Speaking".

Membership in a Toastmasters Club provides: Affiliation with an international educational association. Professionally prepared materials and program resources concerning Listening Speaking Audio-visual techniques Discussion Parliamentary procedure Meeting-conference staging Leadership development through experience as an elected or appointed official. Experience in communication through participation in the "by doing" program. Opportunities for personal and occupational recognition based on improved abilities and expanded experience. The satisfaction of helping others improve their communication and leadership skills while improving your own.
